So I thought taking a steady run might be in ordertoday,12 miles ought to do it and as the route I was taking was unknown to me I thought I'd choose some tunes that I hadn't heard before, and both proved to be a great choice. All my runs for the first mile or two always take the same route but it's when I hit that fork in the road,as it were, that it becomes a choice of where to go. This is usually a spontaneous decision made only moments before the turn; that's the one thing I love about my running because too much planning takes all the fun out of it,although, I did do a bit of googling just to make sure I was on the right track. Inhave to say this run had it all hills mud,mud more hills more mud, what can only be described as a marsh, masquerading as a footpath and take back to the home straight, one long winding road. I had no prior knowledge of the terrain and when I came to a busy 'A'road the passage across came in the form of many steps and when I got to the other side and surveyed my options;my first thought was "who the bloody hell put that great big hill there",not having done a great deal of hill work  a mile and a half of unknown hill In front of you takes its toll on your legs, and your mental motivation however, undeterred I pressed on enjoying the pacey tunes going on in my ears, spurring me on. Light was fading pretty quick so I tried to pick up the pace a little while trying to enjoy the peaceful scenery around me. Like I said it was an unknown route so when I reached a gate on a track with a great big chain and lock on it; I got the sneaky feeling someone either wanted to keep things in or keep the likes of runners like me raving their way through their workout, firmly locked out, so alternatives were afforded me when I saw the lights of the city far down below.I decided to cut across some fields which told me possessed a public footpath, that was as far from what it's description told what it was, my road run became all terrain with no 4wheel drive.Running became quite tricky and the ground extremely muddy but this is the sort of thing where you see what you're made of, it was hard, heavy on the legs and there were a few times I thought I was going to lose my trainers in the sinking mud, by the time I got back home I was caked in mud 12.45 miles to the good with a new route in the bag.All in all this has to be one of my favorite runs to date, simply for the sheer variation in terrain, and as far as the tunes go I was pretty impressed with this guy Dj Nuton and deffinately looking forward to hearing and certainly running to more of his stuff .

That little bit extra

The raving runner

Not a bad go for a New Year's Day run but I wanted a bit more from my next run and I certainly got it. What made the difference between a good run and a great run was a simple choice of turning left or right, so I decided on taking a left turn, that spontaneous decision that meant pounding out an extra 3 1/2 miles I know what your thinking 3 miles is hardly breaking the the energy banks, but on top of the 7.4 miles I did a few days prior it was an uphill struggle or if your anything like me it was just a case of taking on another challenge, so right I went , with the mind set of pounding out a good solid run with the help of a few slammin tunes. I gotta be honest; when that tune that really does it for you comes on it just gives you that little bit extra.

I managed to complete my run with confidence and felt pretty good afterwards managing to get completely soaked and looking like I'd been dragged through the marshes......good wholesome muddy fun !

Date:        Sun 5th jan

Surface:   road and trail
Distance: 10.84 miles
Time:        01:33:57
Avg pace: 8:39 per mile

I have to say I was pretty pleased with that. My frequency of runs in the last 3 months has been quite irregular so I definitely need to step up my game a little.
Cue the next onslaught

Right let's get on to the tunes so many to choose from, so few miles to run to.
What really does it for me out on the road basically boils down to my top 10 artists in the rave scene.
In no particular order

just the beginning

I'm mid thirties and am probably in the best shape of my life, I absoloutely love running but there's one thing I can't go for a run without and thst is my music once I get that beat going, my legs are off hence the name
THE RAVING RUNNER. I love raveing and and running and when im out on the road i completely lose myself in the music, thats when the focus kicks in.
I've mostly done 10k events but in september I completed my first half marathon in 1h49mins
So this year im out to beat that and also beat my 10k times too.

I've decided to give myself a target of 1560km this year and ive made the smallest of dents in that already

new years day 16:30 first run of the year
     road
:Distance    7.42 miles(12km)
:Time.         01:08
just recently ive been doing quite a bit of running in the dark and I must say its a pretty weird experiance but good all the same, armed with my music and my flashing light (to be sure im seen by negligent drivers) its almost like i've got my own little rave going on, had a good run but was already tired when I went out so I half expected to feel like crap when I got back but to my surprise I felt like I could still go on but the fact that I could hardly see anything the wind was picking up and the rain decided to start as soon as I went out by the time I reached the home straight (the last mile) it seemedva good time to head home, so i've made a bit of start on that mammoth target on the first day of the new year with an excellent run,
